Each time I go to my daughter's school for lunch, the aroma takes me right back to being 10 years old. It is the smell of comfort food made in mass quantities. My memories are-of white macaroni and cheese and peanut butter/honey sandwiches. It isn't a bad memory; it just takes me back in time. School lunches have certainly transformed since then, to include chicken nuggets, hamburgers and pizza. Going through the lunch line is a rite of passage of sorts for millions of school children. As I became a parent, I quickly learned it also is something many of us take for granted.
