Shivinder mohan singh sat down a year ago with Naresh Trehan, an eminent cardiologist and business partner, at a five-star hotel in New Delhi. Shivi, as he's known to friends and family, had earlier bought a hospital chain cofounded by Trehan. Now he wanted a stake in a sprawling new medical complex Trehan was building. After being repeatedly rebuffed, Shivi told Trehan they were parting ways. "Oh, are you leaving?" asked Trehan. "No," Shivi responded. "You are." The next day he announced Trehan's "resignation"-and posted security guards to bar Trehan from the main hospital. After protests by relatives of Trehan's patients turned rowdy, Shivi filed vandalism charges against Trehan. Public officials had to intervene to call a truce.
