Nowhere is this more apparent than at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which began promoting Dubai long before it became an international trading and business hub. With almost 65,000 registered members, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) is one of the biggest chambers of commerce, not only in the Arab world, but on the Asian continent. "When the chamber of commerce was set up in 1965, the business community was very small, but they were in need of an umbrella," says Director General Abdul Rahman Al Mutaiwee. "When the late Sheikh Rashed Al Maktoum, founder of modern Dubai, issued a decree establishing the chamber of commerce, he set in motion the real start of business and commercial activities in Dubai," says the self-effacing Mutaiwee.
