The geniuses on sand hill Road in Silicon Valley aren't looking so brilliant these days. Virtually every venture capitalist is left holding the bag on some dogs that went public, soared and crashed. "People got greedy and held on to stocks, riding them too far," says a limited partner who invests with many of the best-known venture firms.
