I thank I.N.G. Wardana for his impartial and helpful comments [1] in response to a query of my own [2] in relation to his work on Jatropha oil. On examining [1] I wonder whether my point in [2] was understood. My concern was that reaction at the tip surface might give an elevated localised temperature even if the bulk of the oil was unaffected by the presence of the thermocouple. This would of course make the thermocouple reading high and not at all representative of the temperature of the bulk sample.
