摘要

Protein trafficking is the process of moving proteins from one cellular compartment to another by various sorting and transport mechanisms. One especially important process is protein dislocation, the transport of proteins from the endoplasmic reticu-lum (ER) lumen into the cytosol across the ER membrane. In particular, proteins destined for secretion are targeted to the ER during synthesis, where they undergo modifications such as glycosylation, attachment of lipid residues or disulfide bond formation. Incorrectly folded or post-translationally modified proteins that fail to pass ER-internal quality control are subsequently dislocated across the ER membrane into the cytosol to be degraded by the proteasome.
