摘要

"People collaborate when the job they face is too big, is too urgent, or requires too much knowledge—for one person or group to do alone." This observation from Powerful Partnerships: A Shared Responsibility for Learning succinctly articulates the power of learning communities, which derive their origin from the seminal work of Alexander Meiklejohn (1932) and John Dewey (1933). As characterized by Lemming and Ebbers in 1999, learning communities are philosophically related to Deweyan principles that identify attributes of successful education "as a social process … deeply rooted in our understanding of community and democracy … evolved out of cooperation and collaborative learning movements that emphasized social interaction and active learning."
