摘要

Influenza (flu) is a viral disease of humans and animals such as pigs, ducks and chickens. The influenza virus is spread primarily by the respiratory route in humans, and infections result in severe, constitutional symptoms of fever, muscle aches and breathing difficulty. Flu is a seasonal disease in the temperate latitudes with annual infections peaking predictably during the winter months.rnA new form of avian influenza or "bird flu" virus is now spreading across the globe and is anticipated to arrive in the Western hemisphere soon. Although now primarily limited to birds, the fact that this influenza is spreading rapidly and entering numerous other species suggests that bird flu may soon evolve to produce a human pandemic. Past experience suggests that, and the emergence of a possibly catastrophic pandemic of a deadly new human influenza is imminent.
