When TAGA celebrated its sixtieth anniversary last spring, it gave many of the active members an incentive to look back on the legacy of the organization. TAGA has always published the papers presented at their Annual Technical Conferences, making the retrospective look a straightforward and objective task. It proved to be a useful exercise in gaining a perspective of the unchanging core of the organization and also an appreciation of the growth and maturation that TAGA has undergone. The "unchanging core" refers to the principles that have always guided TAGA in the quest to embrace members of all disciplines that interact in the production of graphic media with the forward-looking bias of the papers presented. TAGA has always been a place for airing new ideas and approaches that were frequently radically different from the accepted wisdom of the time. The value of TAGA for presenting new research is that your ideas are not rejected nor accepted out-of-hand. Instead, they are given a rigorous and thorough review by technically disciplined individuals in a cordial, even congenial, atmosphere.
