Minimum wages have engendered a lively political and scientific debate in Germany. Yet, there is still no consensus on the labour market effects of a general statutory minimum wage or of a web of industry-specific minimum wages. Ten industries already have statutory minimum wages, most of which came into effect in recent years. But the effects of these already existing minimum wages on the German labor market and the economy in general have not yet been sufficiently analysed.
