The Ofwat chairman, Philip Fletcher, has voiced concerns regarding the lack of competition in the bulk water sector. "We want to move that forward and we want to encourage new entrants into the industry, perhaps enlarging the market by bringing in a much bigger tranche of business customers with the potential to switch their business," he told communications company, Cantos. Fetcher noted that the Government did not want the "domestic market exposed at the moment," whilst two-thirds of customers lacked meters. The drought had focused attention of resource issues, and Ofwat would like to see more metering, especially in the water stressed areas.
