摘要

The mayor of London has sent a number of recommendations to Ofwat concerning house building, water conservation and the planning process. The London Assembly Environment Committee, working on behalf of the Mayor, Ken Livingstone, believes developers should make more use of existing good practice to reduce water use in new residential and commercial developments and renovations. The Committee suggests that the Mayor should lobby for, and government bring about, changes to national planning policy and building regulations. It also calls for improved levels of enforcement to provide much clearer and more specific planning policy on the impact of development on water resources, and modification of building regulations to ensure that new development and buildings do not make excessive demands on local or regional water resources and include high standards of water efficiency - a timely recommendation in view of the rash of hosepipe bans and drought warnings currently announced by water companies operating throughout the southeast of England.
