RWE has confirmed that it plans to sell Thames Water and American Water in order to concentrate on its core electricity and gas businesses. The German company has become disillusioned with the concept of the multi utility: "The limited synergies between the North American and UK water businesses and the European energy business were also a major factor in this decision," it said in a statement. RWE is mulling over its options, including a public offering or an outright sale. At the moment, the plan seems to be to deal with American Water first, before tackling Thames, with the aim of completing both transactions during 2007.
