Haiti, which today is being hit by 145 mph winds and 3 feet of rain from Hurricane Matthew, sees natural disasters frequently. Earthquakes, tropical storms and floods all regularly rampage the region. During the hurricane season eight years ago, Haiti was hit hard by four storms that killed more than 800 people. And in 2010, an earthquake shook the capital and killed approximately 90,000 people. The prime minister at the time said the earthquake "literally set us back 50 years." The nation is exposed to threats like floods and mudslides because of massive levels of deforestation and poor infrastructure.
