House appropriators today released a supplemental funding bill that rebuffs President Obama's request for emergency money to battle Western wildfires and would also loosen public land protections along the Mexican border to enhance access for border agents. The chamber's $659 million supplemental funding bill focuses on the humanitarian crisis of migrant children along the southern border, but it does not include any of the $615 million Obama requested to meet a projected shortfall in wildfire suppression funding this summer. It also would not authorize Obama's request that future wildfires be fought using disaster money.
