Around 25 percent of Beijing companies regulated by the city's carbon laws have ignored a mandatory deadline to report their emissions, local news agencies reported today. Nearly 500 local companies fall under the Chinese capital's carbon trading market, which was set up with five trading markets nationwide to cap carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions. But 140 of those companies missed an April deadline for reporting their 2013 emissions, and some of them are challenging the local agency's regulatory authority. Most enterprises need permits to cover emissions, and others only need to report the amount of CO2 they release.
