In a major fraud case a few years back, Intertek Testing Services was fined $9 million for falsifying test results used to determine safety at Superfund sites and Department of Defense facilities. That case is one example of the serious consequences fraudulent testing practices can have, according to U.S. EPA's inspector general office. But the agency has failed to ensure that fraudulent laboratory environmental data are being properly communicated to program offices and data users, according to a new report from the agency's watchdog office.
