Former Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D) is part of an investment group seeking millions of dollars from a mining company in exchange for access to a copper and silver reserve in northwestern Montana. Optima Inc. has asked Mines Management Inc. to pay $10 million for mining rights it controls in the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness area near Libby, Mont. The proposed mine, known as Montanore, is worth more than $8 billion.
