Homeowners and renters who suffered losses in the magnitude-6.0 earthquake that hit California's Napa and Solano counties Aug. 24 can now apply for federal help. The Obama administration has approved Individual Assistance Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster monies and U.S. Small Business Administration loans for homeowners, businesses and nonprofit organizations, the California governor's Office of Emergency Services and FEMA said yesterday. Homeowners can apply for grants of up to $32,400 to repair their homes, find temporary housing and cover medical bills, moving costs or other related expenses. Homeowners can apply for loans of up to $200,000, and renters can qualify for loans of up to $40,000 to cover personal property losses.
