Last June, I spent ten days in Eastern China as part of an architectural tour hosted by a former client. How to thank him for such generosity? Weave a silk scarf, of course, but in what design? When we visited a model of the Grand MOMA complex, a huge urban project under construction in Beijing, the proverbial lightbulb came on in my head. The building's geometric grid of windows is set off by bright colors on the inset jambs.
