In response to the growing needs of railway systems, Hitachi, Ltd. is strongly promoting several technological developments which will ensure safe and consistent operation of public transportation agencies, efficient railway business operations, improved customer service, and harmony with the environment. Examples in the area of rolling stock include the Series 300, E2, E3, and 500 high-speed Shinkansen cars, and the existing line express and commuter cars with better emphasis on comfort, environmental harmony, and economy, as well as efficient drive systems using the most recent insulted gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) technology.
