Time immemorial, hoteliers will say their number one challenge is growing and retaining great team members for their organizations. If there were known tricks the challenge would have been conquered a long time ago. The fact is, the hospitality career is very demanding and finding people who have passion for the business is never easy, yet a must.Understanding how to feed that requisite love for hospitality can be tricky in an era of disruption and never-ending information flow, which act to either entice or create uproars in the workplace. To better understand what appeals to next-gen hoteliers right now, HOTELS sat down in June with five students enrolled at the Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality at New York University to find out what motivates them and what they look for in potential employers. The short answer: a great company culture and varied opportunities to expand their knowledge base.
