COVID-19 has caused a lot of jobs to vaporize - but it's also spawned some new ones. Many of these positions reflect a now-obligatory commitment by hotels to cleaning and hygiene, while others are a byproduct of tactics to coax guests back. Easily the most popular new job title is some spin on "ambassador of clean." Depending on the hotel, the position is likely to be filled by a housekeeping manager, but sometimes it's a training or HR function. The underlying message of these appointments: We are serious about your health, so serious that we have designated someone to own it. Typical is the Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos in Mexico, where Luis Quezada recently took over as hygiene officer, a position added at all Four Seasons properties. Quezada is responsible for implementing the company's Lead With Care health and safety program. He works with the resort's GM and other senior leaders to provide updates on the program, tracks local and international health and safety regulations and internal communications, oversees internal health and safety training and helps with contact tracing in the event of a confirmed COVID-19 case on the property.
