The United Nations Environment Programme estimates almost half the world's population will be living in areas of high water stress by 2030, and it's no secret hotels often are among the biggest culprits when it comes to high water consumption. Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group is looking to become part of the solution, however. Last year it signed the UN CEO Water Mandate, which outlines specific areas of water stewardship for companies to address. The company also has a new initiative for hotels in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA)-Think Planet Water-designed to help reduce water consumption. Between 2007 and 2012, Carlson Rezidor's EMEA properties reduced water consumption 27% and are aiming to decrease water consumption by another 5% by the end of this year.
