摘要

Headlines made at the 33rd Annual New York University International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference included "REITs hitting their peak," "Deal making rigorous, laborious" and "Corporate travel is back; rate is not."In general, at least publicly, there was optimism about the direction in which business is heading in the United States during what most still call a choppy environment. Hilton Worldwide CEO Chris Nassetta predicted an even better second half of the year, especially with the favorable supply-demand equilibrium, but off the stage many echoed an on-stage statement made by Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts' CEO Kathleen Taylor:"Expect the unexpected." Many executives shared their unease about the fiscal situation in Europe and the United States. Starwood Capital Group Chairman Barry Sternlicht expressed his concern about the near-term macroeconomic outlook, pointing to how the U.S. government is spending USS1.5 trillion more than it is taking in and how "that is not sustainable."
