Sarmed Zokhasbeen building the portfolio of Kingdom Hotel Investments (KHI) over the past 10 years with a seemingly calculated low profile naturally overshadowed byHis Talal Bin AbdulAziz Alsaud of Saudi Arabia, the man who has been his boss and his biggest shareholder, and with whom Zok today says he has a great relationship that is "more institutional" in nature. It appears that Zok, 43, prefers to be the unassuming leader; when asked to reflect on his own accomplishments, he says, "I am proud of my team. I have realized that the CEO is the intermediary between a capable management team and the shareholders, consumers and capitalGeorge V in Paris, interests in famed hotels such as London's Savoy and New York City's Plaza as well as hotels in emerging markets across Africa, Asia and the Middle East, KHI has been more of a net seller of late. It sold a 40% stake in Fairmont Raffles to Qatari Diar and Voyager in April 2010 and recently sold off hotels in Egypt ahead of the recent political turmoil. At the same time, KHI remains a vigilant asset manager, always looking to streamline processes.
