The details are mind-boggling: a 16,797,000-sq.-ft. (1,560,500 sq.-m) mixed-use, urban complex on 67 acres (27 ha) located on the Las Vegas Strip brought to you by strange bedfellows MGM Mirage and Dubai World. It is reportedly the largest privately funded construction project in the history of the United States. Some 12,000 employees have been hired to maintain three hotels, 2,400 condos-it is unclear how many have sold-a casino and a retail center. Another hotel, The Harmon, has faced engineering issues and has yet to open. Now, the Las Vegas-Dubai partnership is banking that since they have built it, people will come to see and experience it.rnInitial results have been positive, according to MGM Mirage executives, including strong traffic at adjoining MGM properties such as Bellagio. In addition, MGM believes that group bookings suggest acceleration throughout 2010 and into 2011.
