The recession has choked off the majority of new hotel development in North America, where many cities are struggling with oversupply and where large-scale financing is very hard to come by. However, the situation is quite different in South America, as growth continues in an effort to meet supply demands and the continent's relative economic isolation has provided a buffer from economic realities elsewhere around the globe.rnMeanwhile, despite economic condi-rntions, new properties continue to come online daily in the United States, thanks to a heavily front-loaded pipeline that is contributing to sliding occupancy rates and RevPAR across the country.
