Stirling lloyd and its Eliminator bridge deck waterproofing system recently played an important role in the construction of a major new highway bridge in the USA. The Al Zampa Memorial Bridge, the first major suspension bridge to be built in the US for nearly 40 years, crosses the Carquinez Straits 32km northeast of San Francisco in Northern California. It replaces one of two existing bridges, and was built following a seismic review of all its major toll bridges by the State of California Department of Transport (Caltrans) conducted following the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. It also caters for an expected growth in the traffic volume on Interstate 80.
