The Chinese Ministry of Communications is offering to host the third Silk Road Conference in autumn in the ancient Chinese imperial capital of Xi'an. The invitation provides a follow-up to discussions held in the IRF's Geneva offices in November between IRF Geneva Director General Wim Westerhuis and MOC delegation led by Vice Minister Feng Zhenglin. The theme of the event is yet to be decided, but will be announced very soon. Preliminary dates are from 26 to 28 October 2004. According to the MOC proposal, the organising bodies will be composed of a Steering Committee and Executive Committee. The former, with Chinese Minister of Communications Zhang Chunxian as honorary Chairman of the former committee, which will be co-chaired by Feng Zhenglin, Wim Westerhuis and the governor of Shannxi Province, where the city of Xi'an is located, will act as decision making body for organising and administering the conference.
