Chicago While many hotel companies sit holding their breath, waiting for the tide to change, at Chicago-based Hyatt Corp. the mood is more optimistic. Despite the current environment, Hyatt recently restructured its management team to ready for a major expansion, perhaps through the launch of new brands, and, according to some industry insiders, perhaps position the company for its long-awaited public offering. The restructuring tactic is part of the Pritzker-family owned Hyatt brand's "Global Hyatt" initiative and is intended to turn the company into a "pure play" hospitality company, according to Douglas Geoga, the newly appointed president of Hyatt Corp. and its AIC, Holding Co., the parent company of Hyatt's international operations. With Geoga at the helm, sources close to Hyatt say his appointment signals "a move on the Pritzker's part to get the message out that this is not going to be a family business that abuses something it owns." Further, sources say Geoga, a 20-year Hyatt veteran, is highly regarded in the industry as an aggressive player capable of taking Hyatt to the next level.
