摘要

The DOL’s proposed rule clarifying the scope and application of the religious exemption for federal contractorshas raised perhaps unexpected opposition from faith-based groups. In a strongly worded letter, 110 faith leadersand 17 national religious organizations stated their opposition to the proposed rule, which they say would "allowgovernment contractors to discriminate against workers under the guise of religious liberty.""We are taught that there is no compulsion in religion (Quran 2:256) and that no form of discrimination isdefensible on religious grounds," the September 16 letter, endorsed by the leaders of a broad spectrum ofreligions, including Catholics, Jews, Muslims, and Protestants, states.
