摘要

Computer models and remote sensing were combined to provide inputs into tactical decision making at the Olympic Games in September 2000 in Sydney, Australia. The complexity of the oceanographic conditions within and outwith Sydney Harbour necessitated different approaches to current prediction. Tidal currents within the harbour were predicted suing numerical models. Currents offshore were predicted using a combination of sea surface temperatures derived from satellite imagery and simple regression formulae relating wind patterns to current speed and direction.
