A citation analysis and related bibliometric studies has been conducted by taking the references of the theses' of Agricultural Economics submitted to the University of Burdwan between 1979-2009. This study is concerned about the types of documents used by the scholars, attempts to prepare the ranked lists of journal, study the age of references, find the age distribution of consecutive years of study and measures the degree of authorship collaboration in the references of Agricultural Economics theses during the period 1979-2009. The findings shows that journal articles are mostly cited by the scholars in comparison to books. This study is very crucial in case of journal ranking. It is expected that the highly ranked journals i.e. the Economic and Political Weekly and The Indian Journal of Agricultural Economics will be received special attention as a journal references in future also in this particular field of study. The calculated half life period is 18 years. Thus, to satisfy 50% of need we are to go back up to 18 years of references. The result shows that most of the literature captured are either single or double authored.
