摘要

The following 11 papers in this issue of the ICES Journal of Marine Science have been prepared based on presentations made at Theme Session K of the 2007 ICES Science Conference in Helsinki, Finland, "Monkfish/anglerfish across the world; common problems and common solutions". With decreased abundance of traditional demersal species, substantial and lucrative monkfish (Lophius spp.) fisheries developed on both sides of the North Atlantic during the 1980s and 1990s and in the South Atlantic off Namibia and Brazil. In general, stock assessments of monkfish (also known as anglerfish) have proven problematic owing to the developing nature of the fisheries and consequently inadequate data.
