摘要

Last month we published a podcast interview with Jim Gibertoni that took to task ADS-B in Alaska. His main point was that it may be a great system for those who could use it, but that terrain and other realities of flying over much of the state made it impractical for most users. I knew it was highly opinionated and would draw some flak. Comments were split right down the middle between those that spat fire and insults at Jim and those that think it's about time someone pointed to the emperor and shouted, "He's naked!" All sides did agree on one point, though: The roughly 40-percent accident reduction with the Capstone project in Alaska probably had more to do with accurate GPS position, datalink weather and terrain warning than any air traffic control gains we associate with ADS-B.
