LightSquared, whose broadband wireless network plans would likely interfere with GPS signals, proposed a new plan that would use frequencies that are controlled by the satellite company Inmarsat Pic rather than those closest to GPS frequencies. But this isn't playing with the industry coalition formed to counter LightSquared's plans. Coalition spokesman Jim Kirkland says, "Confining its operation to the lower MSS band still interferes with many critical GPS receivers in addition to the precision receivers that even LightSquared concedes will be affected." LightSquared still plans to move forward, so this issue isn't dead yet.
