The tone and substance of your column ("Remarks," April 2009 IFR) is right on the money.rnFirst of all, I am glad the pilot is still alive. But what is a 300-hour Cirrus pilot doing mucking around in a 400-foot ceiling? What did his instructor teach (or not teach) about systems, especially autopilot, during in-flight emergencies? Did the subject of personal minimums ever come up during training? Is it possible this accident was rooted in poor instruction?
