Getting from departure to destination can be a chess game, where ATC feels like the opponent and you can't always play fair. The airport at Lebanon, N.H., (KLEB) nestles in a valley at 600 feet above sea level on a plateau above Interstate 89. It's ringed by hills that are affectionately called the Green Mountains on the maps. It offers a few challenges for the flatlander pilot, not the least being that after a point on left downwind, Runway 18 is lost to view until turning final.
