NASA's five-year SATS program is finished. The challenge now is bringing all that cool flying stuff to a paying market. Squint your eyes really hard and it might look like we're entering a new golden age of aviation. Cheap computer technology means virtually every cockpit can have at least a portable moving map GPS. Every aircraft manufacturer that isn't already bankrupt is building a little jet. And, if you believe the press releases, somewhere between next year and the next decade air taxis will fly point-to-point from any of over 5000 small airports around the United States.
