摘要

X-ray emission from an X-pinch energised by a capacitor bank (3.2 kJ, 30 kV, 7.2 μF) was studied using a soft X-ray pinhole camera. Point X-ray source of size ( ≤ 500 μm) was observed. The resolution of the source was limited by the pinhole diameter used in the camera. The wire of different materials like tungsten, molybdenum, copper, titanium and stainless steel was used. X-pinch of molybdenum wire produced the most intense X-rays whereas stainless steel the least for the same bank energy. The peak current (calculated from dI/dt signal) delivered by the bank was approximately 200 kA. The point X-ray source could be useful in many fields like lithography, photo pump for soft X-ray lasers, microscopy, spectroscopy and study of basic physics of high Z plasmas.
