When Hoover Canvas secured a job designing awnings for a mall that was built in the shape of an alligator, company president Jim Carroll, MFC, knew the awnings would have to be interesting. Hoover Canvas Products Co., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., provided plenty of "interest" when it created more than 14,000 square feet of shelter— and the requisite visual impact—for The Oasis at Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise, Fla. The finished project includes six large awnings, some extending 20 feet up and 20 feet out to meet together. Stretching out to the sides is 900 feet of storefront awnings, which allows mall shoppers to travel every inch of the mall outdoors without getting too close to nature.
