The editors and publishers of JS1S are pleased to announce the best paper published in the journal in 2007, which was: "Global software development: Exploring socialization and face-to-face meetings in distributed strategic projects" Journal of Strategic Information Systems, volume 16, number 1, March 2007, Pages 25-49 by Ilan Oshri (Rotterdam School of Management), Julia Kotlarsky (Warwick Business School) & Leslie P. Willcocks (London School of Economics). This paper was chosen in light of the topicality and importance of the subject matter in the age of globalization; the thoroughness of the qualitative, interpretive case study approach employed by the authors; the contributions to theory (specifically a framework for understanding globally distributed teams), and the contributions to practice. These include recommendations concerning investing in the development of socialization, identifying the phase the dispersed team has reached in its development, and staffing dispersed teams based on shared past experiences as well as required skill sets. In other words, the paper more than clears the 'double hurdle' of theoretical contribution and practical relevance.
