摘要

The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) was established on 1 April 2005 and replaced the Arts and Humanities Research Board. The decision to create an AHRC underlines the importance of high-quality research in the arts and humanities for the cultural, creative and economic life of the nation. As with the other research councils the AHRC is an independent Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB), established by Royal Charter and accountable to Parliament through the government Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills' Office of Science and Innovation.
