Have you had the chance to try augmented reality (AR)? Many have used it to see enhancements to what they view through their smartphones. You may have used AR apps such as Layar (layar.com) to access content from newspapers and other media or Ingress Prime (ingress.com) to play location-based AR games. Have you ever thought about developing your own AR content? I designed my first AR experience using HP Reveal (hpreveal.com). When my profile image is scanned with the HP Reveal app, it provides the user with a screenshot overlay of my Google Scholar page. If you are interested in developing your own AR image, here is an overview of how to get started. You can sign up for a free account with the HP Reveal Studio (studio.hpreveal.com/landing). Once you log in, you can develop an "Aura." To do this, you need to upload an image that will serve as a trigger and will be scanned with the app, which is available for Android and iOS devices. Once you upload your trigger image, you will have to name it and to identify coordinates if you want the image to trigger only at a certain location. You can also add a description to the trigger image if needed. Once you hit Save, you might receive a message indicating that an image may be too sparse to use. I received that message, fixed the image, and continued with my project.
