摘要

We have all put our emergency plans to the test recently in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. When considering whether to plan, remember that "it was not raining when Noah began building the ark," according to Library as Safe Haven: Disaster Planning, Response, and Recovery, by Deborah D. Halsted, Shari Clifton, and Daniel T. Wilson. This ALA Neal-Schuman publication was made available for free as a PDF in April 2020, and although it was published in 2014, it is still a helpful resource. The authors are librarians with years of experience in disaster planning. Halsted became involved in disaster planning after witnessing the damage Tropical Storm Allison caused at the Texas Medical Center Library in 2001. She has extensive training in the National Incident Management System's Incident Command System. Clifton is the associate director and head of reference and instruction services at the University of Oklahoma's Health Sciences Center Library. She is actively involved in emergency preparedness in her region. Wilson is the associate director for collections and library services at the University of Virginia's Health Sciences Library. He has also served as coordinator for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine's National Emergency Preparedness and Response Initiative.
