Big business changes have a large effect on information professionals-more than for most, perhaps-due to the technological nature of their work, along with the tendency of (non-open source) technology to be owned by companies that buy and sell and are themselves bought and sold. So it was big news when ProQuest announced that it would acquire Ex Libris Group this past month, a surprise move that will undoubtedly change the landscape of the information industry. On page 1, Marydee Ojala speaks to Kurt Sanford, CEO of ProQuest, to parse some of deal's particulars. And in the second half of her series (see the first part in September's issue of IT), Brandi Scardilli explores the industrial side of the Internet of Things.
