摘要

Copyright disputes can linger a long time. It took almost 9 years for the Google Books case to reach a decision-and depending on appeals, it may not be done yet. While the Supreme Court decided the New York Times Co. v. Tasini case in 2001 (the case involved works by freelance authors that were published in the Times and other magazines that were infringed when the Times content was copied to Lexis and other databases), a dispute over royalties and damages lingers 13 years later. And the Supreme Court is now considering how to resolve a dispute over the screenplay to Martin Scorsese's and Robert De Niro's 1980 film classic Raging Bull, which has been lingering for 23 years.
