摘要

Depending on what you do for a living and what kind of information environment you work in, your view of library technical services may vary. If you count yourself among those who actually work in technical services, you have probably learned a lot on the job. In my experience, many facets about technical services are not always taught in library school. Author Sheila Intner knows this, and her new book is a way for us to learn about them firsthand. Intner, who has taught technical services and collection management since 1980, is now a professor emerita at Simmons College. She has also taught at the University of Maryland and Catholic University and served as consultant to many libraries, along with editing or writing 22 books. Her collaborator, Peggy Johnson, is associate university librarian at the University of Minnesota and editor of the journal Library Resources & Technical Services. Each has served as president of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services. Together, they have dozens of years of library and teaching experience to share with readers. They begin the book with a short preface, elaborating about their intended audience: new managers looking for guidance as well as students and faculty of technical services classes.
