Like many of you, I have been wondering about the state of political affairs in the U.S. The line between political leadership and comedic satire is so thin at times that it is tough to know whether you're watching CNN or Comedy Central. When I try to distract myself, I consider such questions as "just how small of a box will President Bush need to store the presidential library and how long will it take Laura Bush to catalog it?" But I snap back to reality when I realize that these candidates are the potential decision makers for the future of the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) mandate to provide its research to the public paying for it.
